Quick answers to the questions first-time bidders ask most.
Allegheny County sheriff sales are held on the first Monday of every month at 9:00 AM as a virtual (online) auction. The next confirmed sale is Monday, November 2, 2026. The current list is free to preview on this site.
You register in advance with the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office for each virtual sale. Registration usually closes about a week before the sale date and requires a deposit. We show the current registration deadline on this page and link to the Sheriff's registration page, but registration itself happens on the Sheriff's site, not here.
The Sheriff's Office publishes the monthly sale list as a PDF, and it is also advertised in the Pittsburgh Legal Journal. AlleghenySheriffSales.com republishes that same list as a searchable database with the minimum bid, municipality, sale type and current status for every property, so you can filter instead of scrolling a PDF.
For tax-sale properties the minimum (upset) bid generally covers the delinquent taxes, Sheriff's costs and fees listed for that parcel. For mortgage foreclosures the plaintiff sets the opening bid. The sale list shows the published minimum for each property; many fall under $10,000, which is why investors watch these sales.
No. “Free and clear” is a label the Sheriff's list applies to certain tax-sale (Sci Fa) properties. It is not a title guarantee. Municipal, water and sewer, and school-district balances can survive a sheriff sale, so verify title and outstanding balances before you bid.
Owners often pay, file bankruptcy or reach an agreement with the plaintiff right before the sale, which postpones or stays the property. Our sale results pages show what actually happened to every listed property each month, with the Sheriff's reason rewritten in plain English.
